Before telling about RAM, I want to give you some information about Memory. So that you will be able to understand Random Access Memory (RAM).
Computer memory is like our brain. It is able to store and remember the functions of data and information. The storage capacity of computer memory depends on the type of memory package. Input data is inputted in the computer by input device and information is stored through storage media. This storage media is called memory.
Computer memory is divided into smaller parts. And the size of every part remains the same. These parts of computer memory are called cells and each one cell has one address, Which is called a memory address. This starts with address 0.

Let’s first talk about what is RAM with detailed explanation, learn about the second memory. Secondary Memory is called Permanent because it stores memory data and instruction until the user does not delete the data. Some of its examples are Hard Disk, Removal Drive, Optical Disc Hard Disk such as Magnetic Disk, SSD Removal Drive -Pendrive, Floppy Drive Optical Storage Device- CD, DVD, BLUE RAY DVD.
If you talk about Cache Memory, then both memory is very fast with both primary and secondary memory, which is why it is called Fastest Memory. Its memory capacities are also less. What is Primary Memory
The data and information that the computer uses just keep the same data stored by the primary memory. Primary memory is also called main memory. Its storage capability or memory space is limited. As long as the computer has a power supply, it keeps the data when the power supply stops, the data becomes erase. As an example, I tell you – if we are doing some work on the computer and the light goes out then all the working data disappears. All the data inside the computer is processed in memory only.

RAM full name is Random Access Memory and it is also called Direct Access Memory. This is the most important part of the computer, phone or laptop. Its size is less compared to secondary memory. Like our phone lasts up to 1GB, 2GB, 3GB, 4GB, … .8gb. Generally, RAM is low and internal memory is many times more than that. Whenever an app runs in the mobile, it is transferred from the App Mobile’s internal storage to RAM and then it is processed by the Processor.
To illustrate how RAM works, I give you an example of a mobile-
Let’s say the mobile switch is off. So if there is no power in RAM then the RAM is completely empty. And all apps’ data is in internal storage. As soon as we turned on the mobile, our operating system was loaded because the whole system ran on it. And some necessary app like that with the calling app is loaded on our phone. Now when we open another app on mobile, it also goes into RAM.
When we run the 6-7 app together, the RAM will be almost full. When RAM rises and after that, we will run another app, then RAM will send the second app back to the internal memory to make space from inside. So likewise, sending the app reduces the speed of our phones. The bigger the size of the RAM, the more apps we can run simultaneously on our mobile.

- RAM is a volatile memory, that means all the data disappears when the power supply stops.
- Compared to secondary memory, its storage capacity is low.
- RAM is also known as a working memory of the computer.
- RAM uses the CPU.
- It is quite expensive compared to other storage.
- All the applications, programs etc. run in this memory only.
- The speed of RAM is also much higher than secondary memory.

Types of RAM
- SRAM (Static RAM)
- DRAM (Dynamic RAM)

Its full name is Static Random Access Memory. You can guess that the data will be frozen in it from Static word. Means until the power supply will continue. It does not need to be refreshed repeatedly. More chips are used in SRAM than DRAM. Creating SRAM takes more money. SRAM needs more than the rest of the current memory.
Its full name is Dynamic Random Access Memory. It has to be refreshed repeatedly and requires a new electric charge to refresh. It runs slower than SRAM. And they are also much cheaper than them. There is very little space in the DRAM and very little current than the rest. Dynamic RAM is used to create Cache Memory.
